My first ever vinyl record was the Valentyne Suite and I've been a fan of Colosseum since then- In 1994 I met them first on the reunion tour my brother Gerd Schulz-Pilath (R.I.P.) organised. I've seen at least 30 concerts during the following years and I became friends with all of them. Jon was the most pleasant and kind person and we will all miss him a lot.... Collapse

I first ‘discovered’ Jon in 1978 when Colosseum II exploded on to my TV screen on BBC’s Sight & Sound ‘In Concert’ and it made a significant impact on my pre-teenage brain. In the early 80s, I saw Barbara Thompson’s Paraphernalia on several occasions and that only confirmed what an inspiring musician Jon was. Many years later, I found myself conducting the 1st of several interviews with Jon and, over the course of those interviews, was fortunate to get to know Jon a little better. What I discovered was an equally inspiring man. He was warm, intelligent, inquisitive, enthusiastic, funny, observant, energetic, humble and a man of complete integrity. I feel utterly privileged to have been able to get to know him and spend several hours in conversation with him. I only wish I could have known him longer. RIP Jon. Thank you for all of the great music and conversations.... Collapse

I knew Jon from the mid 70s when I played with Jeff Clyne’s Turning Point. It was always a pleasure talking to Jon, he had such great stories & memories of experiences from a different time in the music industry, & of course working with the then young musicians who would later become ‘household’ names. Always a pleasure. A great in the music industry that will be greatly missed. 🎶🎵.... Collapse

A true inspiration whose influence is so widespread. My personal reflection: as a teenager and new drummer in the late 1960s Jon gave me something to which I hoped to aspire in time. John Mayall’s Blues Breakers, the seminal Colosseum, Tempest, reformed Colosseum, Barbara Thompson’s Paraphernalia and so much more. A shining light hero in his own right, an ongoing inspiration and what a CV!... Collapse
