So sad when heroes pass away. Seems no time at all since I was chatting to Jon after his gig with Peter Lemer (last June?) at Pizza Express Jazz Club. I thanked him for introducing me to Jazz/Rock in 1969 when I first heard ‘Those Who Are About To Die Salute You’ album (think it was being played on the John Peel Radio Show). Told him I never get tired of listening to Colosseum. He was very patient and polite as I went whittering on about my other favourite bands, Ian Carr’s Nucleus, Soft Machine etc. Turns out he was a very close friend of Ian Carr and had strong musical connections with many of my musical heroes. We shook hands and parted. I made a mental note to attend his forthcoming Heroes Tour (a tribute to his departed musical heroes such as Grahan Bond) when it plays in the UK.
