Valentyne Suite is a seminal album from my youth. In this and the other Colosseum albums Jon's drumming was technically great, controlled yet at the same time distinctive, driving and inspirational....and live WOW ! At the same time Dick Heckstall Smith took my attention then Barbara and Paraphernalia too, nearly 25 years later I took up the sax myself. I have in recent years fufilled my ambition to play sax in a band and its all down to Jon and Barbara and their band colleagues. Thanks a million for your inspiration and the boundless pleasure you have given over many years. RIP Jon and much love to you Barbara.....both class acts in every sense of the word xxx

My condolences to Barbara, the family and of course Clem, Mark, Chris and Dave. I loved Colosseum from the Those Who Are About to Die Salute You album and was fortunate to see them at The Holywood Festival at Keele University way back on 24 May 1970! https://www.keele.ac.uk/thekeeleoralhistoryproject/thehollywoodfestivalandmusicatkeele/?fbclid=IwAR29tuiQc3XFIeOZM2ILnrHZtbBTZB_fxX9GqUdgxEeBVP3OwJbe5cljYrI I have all their albums and Jon's book. Jon was a superb drummer and the intro to LA is the only drum solo I know and will choose to listen to!

I have been a fan or colosseum and Paraphernalia after two friends (both drummers) introduced me to his spectacular abilities. I have had the privilege of seeing him play live on many occasions over the years. Thanks for the fantastic memories of a life time ,your internal clock was always perfect.

Jon Hiseman inspired me in 1970 aged 14 to buy a drum kit. I was rubbish but he was still my hero. Thank you for all you gave and still give us.

I discovered Colosseum as a teenager in the late '60's, with Valentyne Suite at the top of my record pile. As a would be drummer, Jon's playing amazed me and I was fortunate to see the band in 1970 at the Bath Festival and a year later in Manchester. In 1999 i was privileged to Meet Jon at a Paraphernalia gig in Suffolk. What a kind, generous guy who took my star struck blabberings in his stride and chatted for some time. RIP Jon. Love to his family.

As a drummer myself (although not in the same sport never mind league as Jon Hiseman) I first saw Colosseum at the Bath festiuval and remember Jon's full on solo. I then saw him them at Bromley College where for some reason the social committee hadn't advertised the event and so they had no money to pay the band! The band agreed to play a 'rehearsal' (i.e. for free) of what turned out to be the album Colosseum Live in front of less than 100 fans; it was a fantastic night and a close up view of the master at work. Saw him again with Tempest in 1974 ish and from then on sadly never again live.. Fantastic drummer and I could never understand why Jon's name never appeared on the many lists of top drummers
